Residents near runways learn to live with dangers

NCCo development contrasts with open space near DAFB

After 10 years of living on what she describes as "the flight line" of 
New Castle Airport, Theresa Brainard has come to terms with the 
quality-of-life issues posed by the facility.

She merely blocks out the noise kicked up by eight big C-130 Hercules 
cargo planes and a fleet of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters operated at the 
airport by the Delaware National Guard. That's not to mention the din 
generated by a swarm of private jets and propeller-driven craft that fly 
in and out of the facility.

"Actually, it's like living around a train station," says Brainard, who 
lives near the intersection of Tyne and Holly drives -- just a stone's 
throw from the Division of Motor Vehicles inspection lanes on Airport Road.
