State is testing surface water in East Selah for PFAS as Army installs more home filter systems

Carnes and White are environmental specialists with the Washington State Department of Ecology. They dedicated the last days of April and the first of May to visiting other ponds, irrigation systems and the Yakima River to collect samples and test them for PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances. They are sometimes called forever chemicals because they can linger for years in the environment.
The samples they collect are part of a year-long study by Ecology to look at the possible spread of forever chemicals from the Yakima Training Center around East Selah.
