Contaminated groundwater under Colonial Pipeline facility not impacting drinking water

	• State documents show that gasoline from the Colonial Pipeline facility in Pelham, Ala., contaminated the groundwater under the facility with chemicals more than 10 years ago - and some of those levels are still too high.
	• We found a December 30th letter from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to the Colonial Pipeline Company on ADEM’s website.
	• It discusses three chemicals of potential concern in the groundwater under Colonial’s Pelham facility.

The Colonial Pipeline facility in Pelham is a well-known landmark off I-65. According to documents we found on ADEM’s website, an environmental consulting firm conducted semi-annual groundwater monitoring last September at the facility and issued a report in December.

The Colonial Pipeline delivers gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, home heating oil and fuel for the U.S. military through a pipeline that stretches from Texas, through Alabama ,to New Jersey.
