Salina city, school, airport boards meet on Schilling issue

Officials from four governmental and educational organizations met behind closed doors in executive session Wednesday afternoon to discuss the Schilling environmental issue with lawyers.

The meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 202 of Tony’s Pizza Events Center involved a joint session of the City of Salina Board of Commissioners, USD 305 Board of Education, Salina Airport Authority Board of Directors and representatives from Kansas State University.

The four organizations are known as the Salina Public Entities (SPE) and met to discuss mediation with the United States Department of Justice and United States Army Corps of Engineers about contamination at the site of the former Schilling Air Force Base, now the Salina Regional Airport.
