[CPEO-MEF] PFAS: How about a national multi-stakeholder PFAS dialogue?

Once a decision is made to organize a dialogue, planning should be relatively easy.
The hard part is convincing DOD and EPA that it will be helpful to them. While some of the Congressional champions of PFAS action might be helpful, I’m guessing that few of them know about the successes of the 1990s.

It is important to review the community engagement sessions that EPA held last year (https://www.epa.gov/pfas/pfas-community-engagement <https://www.epa.gov/pfas/pfas-community-engagement>) to ascertain what has already taken place, and what is needed for a national dialogue. I suggest that you review the conference on PFAS held at Northeastern U. (https://pfasproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/PFAS_Schedule_FINAL.pdf <https://pfasproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/PFAS_Schedule_FINAL.pdf>) as well.

>> About two years ago I unsuccessfully suggested to Maureen Sullivan, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Environment, that DOD form a national multi-stakeholder dialogue to work through policy issues associated with the military’s use and release into the environment of PFAS chemicals. I noted growing community interest at many current and former Defense installations across the country.

>> Back in the 1990s, the Defense Department participated in the Federal Facilities Environmental Restoration Dialogue Committee, and it sponsored the National Dialogue on Military Munitions. Both dialogues brought together diverse interests to make constructive, productive recommendations. It’s past time for a PFAS dialogue!
