WWII dud bomb disposed of in Okinawa

Bomb disposal experts in Japan's southwestern prefecture of Okinawa have defused a bomb dating from World War Two.

About 2,500 residents were asked to evacuate before the work began on Saturday. The bomb was discovered in November at a hotel construction site in the center of Naha, the capital of Okinawa.

The explosive is believed to date back to the fierce Battle of Okinawa in the final days of the war.

More than 2,000 tons of unexploded ordnance from the fighting has been disposed of since Okinawa's return to Japan in 1972.
