Dear Lenny,I came across this study today:Doney BC, Henneberger PK, Humann MJ, Liang X, Kelly KM,Cox-Ganser JM. OccupationalExposure to Vapor-Gas, Dust, and Fumes in a Cohort of Rural Adults in Iowa Compared with aCohort of Urban Adults. MMWR Surveillance Summaries November 3, 2017;66(No.SS-21):1–5. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15585/mmwr.ss6621a1 This healthstudy of rural adults in the southernmost county of Iowa1994–2011 showed rural residents were more likely to have medium or high occupationalvapor-gas, dust, and fumes VGDF exposure at their last job (43% on average) thanurban workers (15%) from another study. VGDF exposure varied by farming status, but interestingly, even among rural participants who had never farmed 27% had mediumor high VGDF exposure , i.e. twice as many as urban workers. Thisbackground risk ought to be borne in mind when assessing vapor intrusion riskfrom military toxics sites.
Sincerely,
Christine Ziebold
