PORTSMOUTH - The Air Force announced Tuesday it is moving forward with plans for “two large-scale groundwater treatment systems" to protect drinking water supply wells on and near the former Pease Air Force Base from further PFC contamination.
The Air Force submitted remedial designs to the Environmental Protection Agency for both systems, according to a press release from the Air Force’s Civil Engineer Center.
One system will treat groundwater at Site 8 at what is now Pease International Tradeport, which is more commonly known as the firefighter training area. The other system will treat groundwater under the Pease airfield, according to the release. Once the designs are approved by the EPA, both treatment systems will be built in 2017.
