Contamination issues resolved, resodding of Radford football field begins

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - When Radford High School's football team returns to the field this fall, all indications are that they will do so with a home field advantage for the first time in more than two years.
Work began on Wednesday to resod the football field at John E. Velasco Stadium, 22 months after dangerous levels of soil contaminants -- including arsenic, lead and mercury -- were discovered when the school began work on installing a new artificial track. The area upon which portions of Radford's football field and track sit is an old Navy dumpsite.
