High price tag for water contamination at missile sites

CHEYENNE -- It will likely cost well over $200 million to fully address contaminated groundwater issues at 13 former F.E. Warren Air Force Base nuclear missile sites.
The Army Corps of Engineers is working on long-term projects to remove trichloroethylene from the groundwater at the sites, which are scattered across Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska.
Trichloroethylene, also known as TCE, is a chemical that has been linked to liver damage and cancer if ingested.
The chemical was used to clean the missile launchers during the 1960s and has leaked into the groundwater at the sites.
