Dubious costs
Army contests Camp Bonneville costs
Contractor defends expenses, including large bar tabs

The U.S. Army agreed to give Clark County $26.8 million with the 
expectation that the county would use the money to prepare Camp 
Bonneville for reuse as a county park.

It didn't expect to pay for meals, gift baskets, or bar tabs.

The Army identified almost $150,000 in questionable costs incurred by 
county contractors hired to clean up the former artillery range, 
according to a letter sent to county officials last week. The charges 
date back to October 2006, when cleanup of the 3,840-acre site began in 
earnest.

In the Jan. 23 letter, Army grants officer Douglas E. Hadley wrote that 
the Army will withhold the money from Clark County.
