Base redevelopment group seeks funding
Obama's plan for economy draws interest

CORPUS CHRISTI - Improvements to County Road 52 in Calallen have much to 
do with business being conducted in Ingleside, said members of the 
Ingleside Local Redevelopment Authority.

The group charged with planning the redevelopment of 155 surplus acres 
at Naval Station Ingleside agrees that the economy of the area affected 
by the base's closure will benefit from the Calallen-area project 
because many employees of Kiewit Offshore Services live in Calallen. The 
base, which is near Kiewit, is scheduled to close by Sept. 30, 2010.

The city of Ingleside and the Coastal Bend stand to lose 4,135 direct 
and indirect jobs as a result of the closure. The road improvements were 
among seven items approved as part of the authority's federal stimulus 
projects.
