Source of TCEs in water wells near lake in Lycoming County still unknown

WILLIAMSPORT - The state Department of Environmental Protection says it is continuing to search for the source of high levels of trichloroethylene found in well water adjacent to a state-owned lake in northern Lycoming County.

In a report issued Thursday to the Gamble Twp. supervisors, DEP geologic specialist Clark Smith said approximately 70 water samples have been collected from more than 50 locations. Those include surface water, springs, from Rose Valley Lake and both sides of the causeway, he said. Analytical results have not been returned from the laboratory, he said.

Additional home well and indoor air samples were collected in May, Smith said. Water treatment systems have been installed in six homes, he said.
