Grocery store in Charlevoix County to receive cleanup grant for brownfield redevelopment
Peninsula Reports (MI)
March 30, 2017
With a $249,310 grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced last week, the Charlevoix County Brownfield Redevelopment should have the ability to prepare land for a new area grocery store.
The grocery store, Save-a-Lot, is to be set on land that had been an auto repair facility in Wilson Township. While its past life has left brownfield conditions behind, the grant will go to mitigating the environmental contamination inherent inthe structure. It will also be paired with an additional $127,000 in loans to guarantee the county authority has the money it needs to get the job done right.
