Austinburg brownfield cleanup underway

AUSTINBURG - Tuesday was a "beautiful day for economic development in Ashtabula County," said Sean Ratican, county Port Authority executive director.

Under blue skies and warming temperatures, earth movers ripped four underground tanks from beneath the long-abandoned gas station at the corner of state routes 45 and 307 in Austinburg. It's the next step toward remediating the blighted property and putting a renovated structure in the hands of an area entrepreneur.

Ratican and Janice Switzer, Ashtabula County Community Services and Planning Department director, toured the Austinburg site and other brownfield locations in the area Tuesday, along with representatives of the Ohio Development Services Agency.
