Water main project could cost Goshen $180K

GOSHEN - Complications related to the potential impact of groundwater contamination on a water main replacement project along Monroe Street on the city’s east side could cost the city upward of $180,000 to remedy, a city engineering official said Monday.

Dustin Sailor, director of public works for the city, informed the Goshen Board of Public Works and Safety Monday afternoon that the city’s ongoing Logan Street, Monroe Street and Cottage Avenue water main replacement project has hit a snag - and potentially a pretty expensive one.

Two lawsuits have been filed in recent years by city residents with homes located near the former Johnson Controls site seeking to force Johnson Controls Inc. and Tocon Holdings - the property’s current owner - to clean up the trichloroethylene pollution discovered at the site more than 20 years ago.
