Hoosick Falls sees new environmental investigation
Two toxins found near former Honeywell facility

Hoosick Falls - The state has directed Honeywell to investigate volatile organic compounds that have been found around the company's former plant on John Street.

The state departments of Environmental Conservation and Health said Thursday they directed Honeywell to immediately conduct a study after the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCS) — trichloroethylene (TCE) and 1,1,1-trichloroethane (111-TCA) — at the former John Street facility.

TCE is considered carcinogenic to people, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, while 111-TCA, also known as methyl chloroform, can depress the central nervous system, among other toxic effects.
