The cleanup at the brownfield site along the abandoned rail track at 101st Avenue is moving along at a rate rarely seen by a governmental agency, state Sen. Joe Addabbo Jr. (D-Howard Beach) said Tuesday.
“When you deal with government agencies on big projects like this, it’s either a lack of communication or they’re upsetting the quality of life of the nearby residents,” Addabbo said in an interview with the Queens Chronicle. “But not in this case.”
The state Department of Environmental Conservation in April 2016 installed equipment at the site to remove toxic materials from the site, a spokesman from the agency said in an email to the Chronicle.
According to the DEC, said the machines are checked every two weeks and status updates are sent every month.
