Scientists Finishing Study Of TCE Contamination In Haddam

HADDAM - A team of geologists, including experts from the U.S. Geological Survey, is wrapping up a yearlong study of groundwater pollution in Tylerville, where drinking water wells are contaminated with the industrial solvent TCE.

Nearly 100 test wells have been sunk to track the plume of contamination that extends easterly from Route 154 to the Connecticut River, an area of about 250 acres.

Pociu said DEEP is focusing on five properties in the area of Bridge Road, part of Route 82, where the chemical may have been disposed. "We know 18 wells are contaminated [with TCE]. The question is, where did it start - where is point A?"
