Portage mayor: Plan bodes well for retail growth

A proposal to develop an $8 million commercial complex at the corner of 
Portage Road and Centre Avenue is scheduled to come before the Portage 
City Council tonight.

Mayor Peter Strazdas said the complex is proposed by Treystar LLC on 8 
acres at the southeast corner of Portage and Centre.

Treystar wants to build a 50,000-square-foot business center on a 
brownfield site previously occupied by a gas station. Strazdas declined 
to comment Monday on whether Treystar has lined up potential tenants, 
but said the plan is one of the biggest commercial developments to come 
before the council in the past several years.
