The lead, copper and zinc that contaminate the soil beneath the former
Nassau Smelting and Refinery site in Richmond Valley have prevented the
property from being used for anything.

The toxins, which have festered for decades, were discovered after

Technologies, is scheduled to begin at the state brownfield site this
week and could last up to a year.
